A Time Of Renewal And Remembrance

Greetings New Viewers,

I am still gleaming with excitement of being a part of such an extraordinary and spiritually uplifting occasion: the Bishop Lyne Anniversary dinner. Last Thursday’s celebration is an event that I will always remember. This intensifies my concerns for one of my dearest friends in the whole world, Mr. Donald Johnson, who was too ill to make last week’s celebration. I am happy that Donald was able to reach Bishop Lyne by phone to pay his respect. Please let us include Don in our prayers by asking God for Don to have a speedy and uncomplicated recovery.

I am proud to share that my good friend, Donald, happens to know Bishop Lyne since 1943. Donny, as Bishop Lyne and I call him, was a student at St. Mary’s in Riverside Illinois and was eight or nine years old when he met Bishop Lyne. Donny loves telling so many beautiful stories about then Father Lyne and the now late Sister Monica. I feel as if I was there myself living through these vivid experiences. Donny is also very proud that Bishop Lyne married him to his wife Sharon in 1956.

Donny was on the basketball team at St Mary’s in the 1940’s and Bishop Lyne was the coach. The three of us were having dinner last fall at Le Petite Paris and Donny asked Bishop Lyne, “Bishop, why did you pick me for the basketball team when I had not expressed any interest in playing basketball?” Donny was expecting to hear an ‘insightful’ response from Bishop Lyne, when to his surprise Bishop Lyne said, “I didn’t have much to choose from.” I almost spit my food out from trying to keep my laugh silent. Don had this look on his face that reminded me of how a child looks when she or he learns that Santa Clause does not exist. Do not let this story fool you, Don and the Bishop love each other very much.
