Another One Bites The Dust

As you may or may not have heard, Prince Nayef bin Abdul-Aziz, next in line for the throne of Saudi Arabia, kicked the bucket today. This could very well be the best news I’ve heard this weekend. As a matter of fact, the only thing that would make it better is to hear the rest of the fascist al Saud family died in a fiery car crash when their stretch Bentley limo collided with a gold-plated Lamborghini driven by Bashir al-Assad with the Ayatollah Khamenei riding shotgun.

As it stands, I suppose I will have to just be glad that another ultra-reactionary king has been killed before he could do the maximum amount of damage to his people. His existence as a royal leech slowly sucking up the life and treasure of the people of Saudi Arabia culminated in a banal career (which he was only allowed to have because of his genetic pedigree) as a petty tyrant warming up for the main stage.

Nayef bin Abdul-Aziz believed that his father, totalitarian despot King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz of Saudi Arabia, was far too liberal. In Saudi Arabia sharia is the law of the land and it is punishable by death to convert from Islam to any other religion. There is practically no aspect of life that is not stringently regulated by the religious rules of Saudi society. Yes, this is a very liberal country, to be sure.

But little Nayef was educated by members of the ulema, who taught him of the importance of the autocratic Wahhabi interpretation of Islam and the hatred of other that such a fundamentalist education brings. Of the whole Saud family, it was said that Sayef was closest to these religious fanatics that have so much influence over the intolerance that is considered part of everyday life in Saudi Arabia. Thankfully, His death has substantially weakened their position.
