While it might be the intention of Governor Blagojevich to whitewash his lackluster career with this selection, I would remind everyone to see the bigger picture here. Roland Burris is a legally appointed member of the Senate, put into power via an accepted legal system presided over by a legitimate governor. As far as I know, Rod Blagojevich is still the governor of Illinois (charges haven’t even been filed against him yet) and he did his duty to appoint the state’s representative to the US Senate. Blagojevich has been crucified in the court of public opinion, but luckily that is not the kind of justice we in the United States truly seek.
So, until something changes here, the Democrats should be glad they have gotten such a qualified man to fill Obama’s vacant Senate seat.
