Political Contributions by Media Fail Americans

Despite this malfeasance by the Mainstream Media, Republicans do not propose regulation. Instead, Republicans have made efforts of varying success to popularize the notion that press coverage of news deserves public scrutiny. Fortunately, a Gallup poll released September 21, provides evidence that recent efforts may be working. The poll found that 60% of Americans distrust that the media reports news “fully, accurately or fairly.” Only 31% of independents and 26% of Republicans indicated trust in the media. The same survey found that 58% of Democrats trust the media.

The Mainstream Media’s contributions to the Democratic Party cannot be quantified in dollars. Super PAC spending merely makes a dent in the façade liberal media bias arduously attempts to build for the public to consider before heading to the polls. Media bias by corporations purporting to be news organizations is seen by a recent Rasmussen Reports survey to be a larger problem than corporate contributions. This is the real threat to our democracy

This culture of political bias within news organizations has taken decades to build and will take time to dissolve. The Mainstream Media is incapable of reforming itself. Declines in influence, viewership and readers in recent years haven’t stirred action. Instead, conservatives (and true independents) must infiltrate the ranks of reporters, news desks, editorial boards and executive leadership of Mainstream Media outlets. This is the only way forward toward an adequately informed electorate. Without such an effort, it’s likely, that the Mainstream Media will cause further harm to themselves and the American people.
