The GOP “Is Full Of Racists”

The Republican Party “is full of racists, and the real reason a considerable portion of… (that) party wants President Obama out of the White House has nothing to do with the content of his character, nothing to do with his competence as commander-in-chief and president, and everything to do with the color of his skin, and that’s despicable.”

This inescapable truth did not come from the lips of Rachel Maddow or Bill Maher, but from one of the GOP’s own soldiers. Retired Army Colonel – and my new hero – Lawrence Wilkerson uttered these candid words on the Ed Shultz Show.

Wilkerson’s comments come on the heels of GOP shill and Romney puppeteer John Sununu’s assertion that Colin Powell is only backing President Obama because they are both black. Of course this slimeball attempted to retract the statement, but his off-the-cuff race baiting is a true glimpse into the GOP’s inner-workings. Wilkerson is the only Republican so far to call Sununu on his blatant racism. His righteous, and entirely understandable, anger at Romney’s mouthpiece (and his whole political party to boot) is commendable and praiseworthy.

Wilkerson has long been a vocal critic of GOP war criminals like Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney and The High And Mighty Royal Personage King Bush II. His career of sparring with mad dog killers began way back during his service in Vietnam, where he personally risked his life to save unarmed combatants from a blood-thirsty chopper pilot. His service there showed he is man of unimpeachable integrity (making his GOP membership seem odd…), who refused to let men under his command commit atrocities in the name of misguided American jingoism.

This stellar reputation, combined with a thirst for education, propelled him up the ranks of the military, until he came to the attention of General Colin Powell. Wilkerson served as Powell’s assistant, aiding the General through the Gulf War and into his career as Secretary of State.
