In a turn of events that the Newspeak state-run voice of The People’s Republic of China has labeled an “obscenity”, Liu Xiaobo, a citizen and life-long resident of the PRC, has been named the winner of the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize.
It may be difficult for the committee to award him his medal, as China won’t tell anyone which secret prison they have Liu Xiaobo locked up in. I’d be willing to bet the PRC would deliver his check, though. Just don’t check that signature too closely, or the fact that it got signed over to the Politburo’s bank account…
Liu Xiaobo has been in jail since last Christmas, guilty of inciting subversion of state power. How did he do this? Did he burn down a government building? No. Did he steal state secrets and sell them to America? No. He wrote a manifesto.
Yes, that’s it. He wrote a manifesto.
Better double the guards on his cell, China.
The manifesto, named Charter 08 (the naming meant to ape Charter 77 of Czechoslovakian fame), which has been signed by hundreds of Chinese luminaries, is absolutely LOADED with insane ideas for fairer Chinese government. Here’s a few:
Separation of powers
Legislative democracy
An independent judiciary
Election of public officials
Freedom of assembly
Freedom of expression
Freedom of religion
Protection of private property
My god! Get out the butterfly net! This guy’s gone insane!

birds of a feather…
and if Liu Xiaobo were in this country he would more than likely applaud the tea party.
