Shut down the DEA. Take the freakish amount of money we’re utterly wasting on a doomed-from-the-beginning War On Drugs and spend it on something (anything) else. Sell licenses to head shops to deal marijuana and LSD. Charge taxes on those sales and regulate the public consumption of drugs, as is being done with cigarettes. In one fell swoop we’ll have increased money made from taxes and tickets, cut government expenditures, massively reduced the prison population and taken away a major revenue stream for tin pot dictators and drug warlords the world over. Then we can let the people of the United States choose what they put in their bodies.
Too bad it’ll never happen…
