When The Going Gets Tough…

It is painfully obvious that the only reason the so-called Western Powers of the United States, France, Great Britain and Canada are involved in Libyan affairs is because the Arab League (and their even more cowardly African counterpart the A.U.) steadfastly refused to do anything about the carnage. Don’t talk my word for it folks. Hassan Nasrallah, Secretary-General of Hezbollah, the world-class terrorist organization and current de-facto ruling party of Lebanon, told his followers on Sunday that “the fact that most Arab and Muslim leaders did not take responsibility opened the way for Western intervention in Libya.”

It could not have been put better. Because they ignored the situation it became so dire that even the United Nations acted. The fact that it took less than several months to get such a strongly-worded resolution out of the U.N. is a marvel in and of itself and it shows exactly how little the Arab and Muslim leaders care about their citizens.

Why couldn’t the Arab League, after deciding a no-fly zone (or whatever they think a no-fly zone is) needed to be put into place, then organize their member nations and institute the no-fly zone? Did it even enter into their minds that such a thing was possible? That perhaps actually taking action themselves, instead of waiting for other to do it for them, might be a path of action worth taking? Many of the member nations certainly do not lack in air power.

The Royal Jordanian Air Force has a few dozen F-16 Fighting Falcons and Mirage F-1s.

The Royal Moroccan Air Force has 40 Mirage F-1s, at least 30 F-5s and even a couple F-16 Fighting Falcons.

The U.A.E. Air Force has almost 80 F-16 Fighting Falcons and over 60 Mirage 2000s.

The Algerian Air Force has almost 70 MiG-29s, a dozen MiG-25s, almost 40 Su-24s and almost 30 Su-30s.

The Kuwait Air Force has almost 40 F/A-18 Hornets.

The Syrian Air Force has over 60 MiG-29s, almost 40 Mig-25s, over 170 MiG-23s and over 160 Mig-21s.

Saudi Arabia has over 160 F-15 Eagles, 70 F-15 Strike Eagles, over 110 British-built Tornadoes and at least 20 Eurofighter Typhoons. Saudi Arabia ALONE could have fielded enough fighters to institute the Arab League’s (admittedly bizarre idea of) a no-fly zone.
