Theo’s Twit Of The Week: Ainsley Earhardt

In a fascinating turn of events, it appears that Christianity has been redefined by Theo’s Twit of the Week:

Ainsley Earhardt

According to Earhardt, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints are not, in fact, Christians! Earhardt, who, oddly enough, holds no degrees – or evidently general knowledge – pertaining to religion, saw fit to inform the world that famous Mormon Mitt Romney, former governor of Massachusetts and current presidential hopeful, would not be able to raise campaign funds or rally social conservatives because he is “obviously not … a Christian.”

Oh, Ainsley, how painfully wrong you are. In fact you’re so wrong that you’ve brought on a lecture about Christianity from an atheist! Ah, the irony…

Earhardt’s statement reflects the gross misunderstanding of the LDS Church that is eternally perpetrated by Protestant, Roman Catholic and Orthodox Christianity. This is because Christians are some of the most bigoted, egotistical people in modern organized religion, believing that only their ever-so slightly different version of Christian faith is the only true version and that all other shades of the faith are tainted and incorrect.

I am so sure that most people cannot list the major dogmatic differences between Mormonism and mainstream Christianity that I have ‘hidden’ the answers below. Citizens of the Internet, please do your darndest to think up the answers then highlight the text below to see the truth!

The LDS Church is considered Christian primitivist movement, which rejects modern Christian denominationalism. The only major differences between Mormonism and most major brands of Christianity are lack of belief in the Trinity and the rejection of the use of creeds. Mormons do believe in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, they simply do not consider them three-in-one.

Shocking, eh? What earth-shattering differences!

Well, maybe even these tiny differences are enough to keep Mormons from getting financial backing and obtaining high public office. Let’s take a look at Congress and confirm that there aren’t any Mormons serving in the highest echelons of the legislative branch.

Wait a minute:

Dean Heller: Current senator (R-Nevada).

Eni Faleomavaega: Current nonvoting representative (American Samoa).

Jason Chaffetz: Current representative (R-Utah).

Jeff Flake: Current representative (R-Arizona).

Mike Crapo: Current senator (R-Idaho).

Mike Simpson: Current representative (R-Idaho).

Orrin Hatch: Current senator (R-Utah).

Thomas Udall: Current senator (D-New Mexico).

Walter Herger: Current representative (R-California).

Robert Bishop: Current representative (R-Utah).

Leonard Boswell: Current representative (D-Iowa).

James Matheson: Current representative (D-Utah).

Howard McKeon: Current representative (R-California)

Well, um, uh…. CERTAINLY no Mormon could be Majority Leader in the Senate!

Harry Reid (D-Nevada) since 1987

How is this possible?! This has to be some fluke. Morons must only recently be getting into office somehow, by pretending they’re Christians or something. Let’s take a look at the past and see if there are any more Mormons that snuck into power:

Angela “Bay” Buchanan: US Treasurer during the Reagan presidency.

Berkeley Bunker: Former senator (D) Nevada (1940-42).

David M. Kennedy: Former secretary of treasury (1969-71); ambassador to NATO (1972-73).

David Matthew Kennedy: Former Secretary of the Treasury.

David S. King: Former representative (D) Utah (1959-1963, 1965-67).

Elbert Duncan Thomas: Former senator (D) Utah (1933-51).

Ernest Istook: Former representative (R) Oklahoma (1993-2007).

Ezra Taft Benson: Former US Secretary of Agriculture.

Frank E. Moss: Former senator (D) Utah (1959-77).

Gary Herbert: Current governor of Utah.

George W. Romney: Former Governor of Michigan.

Gordon Smith: Former senator (R) Oregon (1997-2009).

Howard Cannon: Former senator (D) Nevada (1959-83).

Howard Nielson: Former representative (R) Utah (1983-91).

Ivy Baker Priest: Former US Treasurer.

J. Reuben Clark: Former undersecretary of state, U.S. ambassador to Mexico.

Jake Garn: Former senator (R) Utah (1974-93). The astronaut senator.

Jim Gibbons: Current governor of Nevada.

John Doolittle: Former representative (R-California).

Jon Huntsman Jr.: Former American Ambassador to China, 2012 presidential candidate.

Marriner S. Eccles: Former chairman of Federal Reserve Board (1934-48).

Michael O. Leavitt: Secretary of Health and Human Services during the George Bush presidency.

Mitt Romney: Former governor of Massachusetts, 2008/2012 presidential candidate. HOLY COW!

Morris King Udall: Former representative (D) Arizona (1961-91); Presidential Candidate (D).

Paula Hawkins: Former senator (R) Florida. The first woman senator from that state.

Ralph Harding: Former representative (D) Idaho (1961-65)).

Reed Smoot: Former senator (R) Utah (1903-1933). Once elected, the U.S. Senate refused to seat him for four years because he was Mormon.

Rex E. Lee: Former U.S. Solicitor General.

Richard Swett: Former representative (D) New Hampshire (1991-95); U.S. Ambassador to Denmark (1998-99).

Robert Bennett: Former senator (R-Utah).

Stewart Udall: Former secretary of interior (1961-69); representative (D) Arizona (1955-61).

Terrel Bell: Secretary of Education during the Reagan Presidency.

Wayne Owens: Former representative (D) Utah (1973-75, 1987-93).

William H. King: Former senator (D) Utah (1917-1941).

The differences between Mormonism and ‘mainstream’ (if such a thing can be said to exist) Christianity are a pittance. Scads and scads of Mormons have been elected and appointed to high office, despite this supposed religious handicap. Yet people like Ainsley Earhardt know nothing about this, evidently. There is no excuse for such ignorance, especially from members of the press. Perhaps, Ms. Earhardt, if you had ever bothered to learn about of of the fastest growing faith movements in the world you might know these things. Until you decide to actually learn about Christianity, its history and many varied traditions, perhaps you should just keep your uneducated opinions to yourself.

Um, Romney was not Governor of Maine. He was, however, the 70th Governor of Massachusetts, 2003 – 2007.

If you knew all of the Mormon beliefs, not just the ones made fun of on south Park, you know that it really is not a Christian religion. I never heard Jesus speak of each man getting his own planet to rule in the after life.
