It is good to see people (even if they are only servants) involved in the highest echelons of the Catholic Church’s power revolting against the perversion of their faith by the very men charged to protect it. I say thank you, Paolo, for standing up and doing the right thing. It is not immoral to break the rules of bad men, and I hope Paolo Gabriele knows that, deep down in his heart. If he is really responsible for Vatileaks, then I call on the world to applaud his work in uncovering (yet again) the slimy inner-workings of the perennially corrupt Vatican. He is a patriot, both to his adopted home of Vatican City and to the Roman Catholic religion. In fact, I think it is time to canonize this religious freedom fighter.
Since the Church has cut the number of miracles required for sainthood in half, it shouldn’t be too big of an issue to squeeze in Paolo. He assiduously maintained the odor of sanctity in the Pope’s laundry hamper, after all (to say nothing of regulation of the Pontiff’s liquefaction processes). Despite his in-depth knowledge of the greed and moral turpitude of the Holy See, most sources say Gabriele and his family are deeply-pious Catholics; a miracle for certain.
Even above all that, he is a martyr for his faith. In betraying the corrupt and irrelevant leadership of the Roman Catholic Church he has given this tragically-marred entity another chance to right itself. Whether or not it will is another matter, but the important fact is that Paolo (and probably some unnamed accomplices) were able to see the difference between serving the corrupt officials who steal in the name of their God and serving God himself. If the Roman Catholic Church can find more heroes like Saint Gabriele, perhaps it can get back to its true mission one day.

Hmmmm, let’s see: you sound like an angry lapsed Catholic or a non-Catholic.
Paolo committed a great error and betrayed Pope Benedict.
Catholics are among the most criticized people in the world; I’d like to see your write a venomous column about some other religions? How about your own?
Shut up.
