Nayef apparently believed women to be little more than breeding stock. He didn’t think women should have the right to vote, or even to drive. He tirelessly worked to disrupt and destroy attempts to modernize social rules in the country, blithely ordering the arrest of protesters without any cause during his tenure as Minister of the Interior. This hatred of freedom and women’s rights was only bolstered by his belief that democracy is a terrible, terrible concept. How could a fascist and bigot like him ever rule if the Saudi people were allowed to choose their leaders, after all?
And of course he believed that the Evil Zionist Empire, instead of the terrorists who were largely of Saudi origin, was entirely behind the 9/11 attacks. This idiocy alone should be enough for the world to breathe a collective sigh of relief when hearing of his passing.
So go out tonight and celebrate that another dictator has bit the dust. I certainly will.
