A Curriculum in Family: St Mary of the Angels School

We notice many schools in the paper that have excellent basketball teams and score high on standard evaluation tests. We see certain schools on the news and hear about others on the radio. We may become comfortable with these schools and want to send our kids there. But what about others?

One school I have recently taken interest in is St Mary of the Angels on the Northwest side. A quaint and close Catholic elementary School prides itself with opening children’s minds and opening children’s hearts. St Mary of the Angels has been around for more than a century and includes children from all areas of Chicago. These children are enrolled in a college preparatory program from early on. The faculty teaches children now to prepare them for the future. Historically, about 50% of the graduating class of St. Mary of the Angels school is accepted into the Top 20 High Schools in Chicago land.

This is important because many major universities select their new students from these schools. As parents who want their children to go to the best schools, what high school your kids graduate from often determines the college that accepts them. Children are taught at a teacher to student ratio of less than 10 to one and they are given an intense and well-rounded curriculum of classes.

The students at St Mary of the Angels are placed in an environment that is based on the fundamentals of family. The parents are highly involved in their children’s education and the kids get involved by volunteering for the school and the neighborhood. Kids learn how to give. They receive a great education in a comfortable environment and are taught values of generosity, faithfulness, and respect, which are fundamentals for a successful life.
